DogSpot is a game where you earn points by spotting and photographing dogs.
This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and your rights over it. DogSpot is
operated by Bytelogic Ltd ("we", "us"), the data controller, based in the United
Kingdom. It applies to the DogSpot iOS app and its backend service.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. Your email address, chosen username, and password
(stored only as a secure hash). You may also pick an avatar and display name.
Photos you take. The dog photos you capture or upload to spot a dog or submit
to a game. These are stored on our servers and, when submitted to a shared game, are visible to
the other players in that game.
Location. When you submit a photo, we attach your device's approximate/precise
location at the time of capture to verify the photo is taken live and to help prevent
cheating. Location is used only for photo verification and is not tracked in the background.
Camera. Access to your camera is used solely to take dog photos within the app.
Gameplay data. Points, dogs spotted and patted, streaks, games and lobbies you
join, leaderboard rankings, and messages you send in a game's chat.
Notifications. If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so
we can send you game and streak updates.
Technical data. Standard server logs (e.g. IP address, request time, device/app
version) used to operate and secure the service.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR / GDPR)
Contract. Providing your account and the core game (matches, scoring, photo
submission, leaderboards).
Legitimate interest. Keeping the game fair (photo/location verification and
anti-cheat), improving the app, security, and support.
Consent. Camera access, location, and push notifications — each requested via an
iOS permission prompt that you can grant or deny, and change any time in iOS Settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
Create and manage your account and profile.
Run games: submit photos, score points, rank players, and power leaderboards.
Verify that photo submissions are live and genuine, and detect/prevent cheating and fraud.
Send you notifications you have opted into.
Maintain the security, reliability, and performance of the service.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only:
With other players — your username, avatar, points, streak, and any photos you
submit to a shared game or that appear on a leaderboard are visible to other players in that
context.
With service providers that host and run the app on our behalf (e.g. our cloud
hosting provider and Apple's push notification service), under agreements that protect your data.
When legally required — to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the
rights, safety, and property of our users or us.
5. Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (see
below), your personal data — including your profile and submitted photos — is deleted from our active
systems, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.
6. Your Rights
Under UK/EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object
to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You can:
Delete your account and data directly in the app: You → Delete Account.
Or contact us using the details below to exercise any of your rights.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
(in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).
7. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and passwords are stored only as secure hashes.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect
your information.
8. Children's Privacy
DogSpot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from
them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new
"last updated" date and, where appropriate, released with a new app version.
